As the Indigenous Service Support Officer, you will specifically:
- Assist and support Youth Justice staff and relevant community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, and contemporary best practice.
- Implement culturally appropriate individualised case plans through designing and implementing intervention strategies, negotiating with service providers, and linking clients to the services/supports they require (including formal and informal services, government, and non-government agencies).
- Consult and effectively work with relevant stakeholders including families, elders, other key community members, community agencies and government departments to enhance the capacity of these stakeholders to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families subject to Youth Justice interventions and their families.
- Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case notes and records, preparation of reports and performance reporting.
- Participate productively and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework outcomes.
- You can recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and have the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols in the community you work in. You know about and understand the historical and contemporary issues that impact on both cultures.
- It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
- Drivers' license: it is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold a current “C” class driver's license. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day-to-day work.
- Blue card: this role provides support services to children and young people and therefore will require a valid Blue Card with the organisation. Please refer to the Blue Card Services website (
