Job description

Love design and timeless, handcrafted furniture? We are looking for an exceptional Industrial Designer who shares our passion to join our design studio in Brunswick.
Role
Love design and timeless furniture? We are looking for an exceptional Industrial Designer who shares our passion for Australian designed and handcrafted furniture.
This is a dream job to join an award-winning team with user-centred focus, creating timeless quality products that bring joy to many.
Expect to work on a variety of projects including dining chairs, tables and modular systems. The ideal candidate will merge the ability to listen and observe consumer experiences with their own to create innovative products. They will be driven, passionate, self-motivated and collaborative.
The role is 4 days a week, with the option of 5 days if desired.

About Us

Kett create furniture collections that are honest in their use of materials and united in their craft.
Kett indoor furniture is primarily made in Australia, with timber craftsmanship, staining and powder coating done in partnership with selected small businesses across Australia. Additional timber studios are based in Italy. Kett outdoor furniture is produced in Indonesia with treasured collaborators and teak specialists. All upholstery across the Kett range is made to order, and expertly executed in our Melbourne workshop, by hand. Kett is part of the Cosh Living business, so you will be part of a larger Australian designer furniture company who have been in the business more than 15 years.

About you
We are looking for someone who is:
Collaborative: You enjoy working with others, solicit feedback and incorporate it into your work.
Flexible: Being part of a fast-growing company means what and how we work is always evolving.
Optimistic: You’re an easy-going optimist who brings energy to the team.
Humble: You are humble about your own capabilities and build up those around you.
A Learner: You are curious and always evolving your skills.

Reporting to the Design Director, you will partner with engineering, marketing, sales, operations and factory staff to develop products that demonstrate great design, production readiness and evidence-based product-market fit. You will have a thorough understanding of all stages of the design process and support the Design Director to deliver design projects on time, in full and on budget.
We are looking for someone who enjoys all stages of the design process, from design thinking research to hands-on prototyping, collaborating internally, externally and more. We are looking for a talented and driven individual who will uphold our values - caring, inclusive, dependable and curious - and contribute to our highly positive team culture.
We're Interested in Hearing from People Who Have:
Degree qualified in Industrial Design, or equivalent.
3+ years previous demonstrated experience in industrial design and the production environment
Strong knowledge of design principles and experience in product delivery from concept through to commercialisation.
Strong ideation skills plus great visual and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to prepare and present design presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in a wide range of materials, finishes and processes that can or may be used in outdoor furniture design and production.
Experience working with sheet metal, aluminium extrusions, castings and fabrication as well as Solid timber joinery.
Hands-on ability to prototype new designs, including 3D printing experience.
Proven ability to produce production level drawings for mass manufacturing purposes.
Advanced level in SolidWorks (equivalent to Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional - CSWP). Experience using Solidworks PDM is an advantage.
Experience with rendering software such as Ray Trace is an advantage.
Intermediate level Microsoft Office and Adobe skills.
High attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and in a close-knit team towards common goals.
Experience in user-centred and design-thinking processes is an advantage.
Current drivers license.

What is on offer
See your designs manufactured, launched to market, and published in local and international journals. You will be well compensated and work with a highly regarded design brand that is strongly committed to strategic growth in Australia and internationally.
