Injury Management Officer

Location: Sydney and NSW Regional Centres

Employment type: Ongoing, Full-time position (1 vacancy) + Talent Pool

Salary: Clerk Grade 5/6, $93,295 to $102,941 plus employers’ contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

The Workers Compensation, Safety and Wellbeing team within the People directorate leads and implements the Department’s wellbeing programs, safety approach and handles all workers compensation and non-compensable recover at work matters.

The Injury Management Officer develops and provides effective and targeted injury and claims management and return to work programs to support injured workers to recover at work at the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).

What you’ll do

As part of the Workers Compensation, Safety and Wellbeing team, you will provide Injury Management services, including return-to-work programs, to achieve positive outcomes for the employee and ensure cost effective management of compensable claims.

You will deliver case management for workers compensation claims and develop and implement return to work plans and injury prevention strategies to ensure delivery of effective services.  This will include providing support, education and advice to managers and staff in different business streams across DCJ to ensure consistent application of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

You will consult, negotiate, and liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes in relation to Injury Management and return to work of employees for the business.

You will also maintain the accuracy, confidentiality and privacy of case files and relevant records to ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures.

You'll work as part of a team of Injury Management Officers in a hybrid work environment.

What we’re looking for

Essential requirements of the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a therapeutic or nursing area, or equivalent Injury Management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current workers compensation legislation and policy
  • Valid Driver Licence and/or ability and willingness to travel across a geographical area to provide face to face support to injured workers as appropriate.

In addition to meeting the essential requirements, our ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and understanding of current NSW workers compensation legislation. Previous experience as an Allied Health Professional or Nurse or Return-to-work Coordinator and case management experience would be beneficial.
  • Show a strong commitment to the Recovery at Work program/process; and a genuine interest in working with injured workers to establish favourable outcomes for all parties. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to have courageous conversations with injured workers and managers to enable positive outcomes. Ideally, you’ll be customer focused, with the ability to develop strong links with the business and stakeholders.
