About the Role

You will collaborate between IT and Operational Technology / Automation departments to consult on integrations, new technologies and security. You will address and enhance areas that fall outside the traditional boundaries of both IT and Industrial Automation.
 
Principal Accountabilities
  • Collaborate with production and engineering departments to determine optimal methods for collecting, analysing, and reporting on sensor and machine data
  • Assess proposals for introducing new IoT and other connected devices to the site, ensuring suitability and security, and propose alternatives as needed
  • Develop written requirements and provide consultation for networking existing and new OT systems, ensuring high levels of security and reliability
  • Integrate various data sources (PLC/SCADA, IoT systems, Web API) with IT and OT departments, providing context for analysis and reporting
  • Work with maintenance technical staff to document connected industrial devices, review security concerns related to configuration, known vulnerabilities, and firmware updates
  • Manage and maintain in-house built IIoT ecosystems and collaborate with vendors to modify and improve hardware and software.
  
About you  
We are looking for an engineer with broad experience and technological interests to bridge the gap between IT and OT knowledge, implementing innovative improvements and solutions.
A problem solver who enjoys building and experimenting with technology as a hobby (e.g., 3D printing, Arduino, robotics, homelabs) and is eager to leverage this knowledge in their career.
Essential:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking technology across IT, OT, and IoT domains, including best practices for security.
  • Some experience with industrial control systems hardware and software (PLC & SCADA/HMI).
Desirable:
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Microsoft .NET / C# desktop applications.
  • Practical experience with relational databases (MSSQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience managing small to medium-sized projects.
  • Embedded software development experience (Arduino, C/C++).
  • Experience in analysing and reverse engineering communication systems.
  • Familiarity with git or similar version control systems
