Working with the Head of International and Industry Programs, you will work in collaboration with our in-country partners, members and funders to deliver tangible outcomes across South East Asia and the Pacific, with a primary focus in Vietnam.
With a focus on project delivery and building strong trusted relationships , you will facilitate the two-way transfer of expertise and knowledge to build sector capability and drive measurable improvements in water resilience and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As the role supports international programs, relations and stakeholders, applicants must be able to travel both nationally and internationally as required in accordance to the program calendar and events, and be bilingual (English/Vietnamese) in order to fulfill the requirements of the role effectively.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of innovative water treatment technology pilots to provide safe drinking water for regional communities.
- Coordinate site inspections in regional areas to collect data (e.g. source of feed water, water samples for testing and analysis) to support selection of the appropriate sites for installation of decentralised drinking water treatment systems.
- Assess and select fit-for-purpose innovative water treatment systems based on the results of water quality analysis, the scientific and practical knowledge of each proposed system and its impacts on the surrounding environment.
- Support the implementation of the pilot installation, commissioning of the selected system and coordinating training workshops for operators.
- Collate practical tools, materials (water safety plans, waste management methodology, environmental protection approaches) provided by Australian water utilities and knowledge published on scientific peer-reviewed articles.
- Prepare reports and presentation slides including graphs, figures, and statistics built from the collated tools, materials and scientific findings.
- Assist with the implementation and evaluation of the developed strategies based on the comparison of the performance before and after the implementation of the developed strategies.
- Participate in sharing knowledge and experience in development and implementation of policy, implementation and guidelines for the Australian and Vietnamese water sectors.
- Identify opportunities and support the delivery of a number of government funded development and/or trade projects in South East Asia and the Pacific, with a primary focus in Vietnam
- Liaise professionally and effectively with key stakeholders including International Water Associations, AWA members and employees, Funders, other NFPs and government to ensure AWA is held in high regard and seen as a delivery partner of choice.
- Identify and promote opportunities for members to contribute to actively contribute to projects via their knowledge skills and expertise.
- Manage project budgets and reporting with a high level of attention to detail
- Coordinate and participate in inbound and outbound missions to key international partner organisations, events and conferences and embrace the use of digital platforms to connect our partnerships.
- International and national travel as required to fulfill the requirements of the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Science or Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in the Water sector
- 3-5 years experience in a similar role with a strong focus on delivering projects in a development context (international development experience is highly desirable)
- Sound understanding of Australian Government’s aid and trade objectives, directions, and opportunities across the Indo-Pacific
- In depth understanding and knowledge of the Vietnam and Australian water sectors
- Bilingual in written and spoken English and Vietnamese
- Project management skills including planning, budget management, initiation, execution and review phases
- An ability to adapt and respond constructively to changing circumstances
- Exceptional communication skills, including ability to tailor information across cultures, platforms and stakeholders
- A creative thinker with an ability to connect dots, create opportunities and overcome challenges
