Job description

Job Description

AustralianSuper's $5+ billion Private Credit portfolio has grown considerably over the past few years and is expected to grow at over 20% pa over the foreseeable future. This future growth, driven by strong member inflows, as well as investment returns from the existing portfolio, has necessitated the need to recruit a new team member who will focus on the composition and construction of the Private Credit portfolio, together with portfolio insights and a focus on screening new strategies to add within Private Credit to help grow the portfolio and deliver strong performance.

As an Investment Director within the Private Credit team, you will:

  • manage the portfolio construction of the Private Credit portfolio, developing a robust analytical framework;
  • undertake detailed analysis of the existing Private Credit portfolio to make insights and suggestions on different concentrations and correlations, including sectors and geographies for future investments or the addition of new strategies;

  • Identifying new investment strategies for the Private Credit portfolio which will maximise both portfolio outcomes, as well as the objectives of the broader AustralianSuper investment department;
  • Leading engagement with the Private Credit team to provide clear portfolio objectives for seeking new loan investments (e.g. target industry sector allocations, risk profiles, position sizing etc.);
  • Communicating investment performance, allocation, attribution, portfolio dynamics and processes to key internal stakeholders;
  • Overseeing the preparation of annual performance, risk, and cost budgeting for Private Credit within the Mid Risk portfolio;
  • Contributing to the due diligence of new investments as it relates to portfolio fit and recommended allocation, including preparing relevant sections in new investment papers;
  • Overseeing Private Credit portfolio's credit rating framework to be applied to each new loan investment and loan watchlist framework;
  • Contributing to the delivery and enhancement of the Private Credit investment processes, including establishing a framework to determine the optimal allocation to investments.

What you'll need

The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of portfolio construction development and frameworks and understanding of portfolio objectives. In addition, they will have detailed knowledge and understanding of credit investing and credit markets in a global context.

More specifically, we are looking for:

  • Extensive experience working in either investment management, asset consulting or banking with specific experience around portfolio construction and strategy;
  • Specific credit investing experience, ideally across a broad range of Private Credit sub-strategies;
  • Experience in developing investment strategies;
  • Knowledge and capability to undertake econometric and financial market modelling;
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting data and investment processes;
  • Ability to work across the investment department in a team-based environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships, engage with and present findings to senior stakeholders;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills;
  • Superior tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance, or a related field;
  • Postgraduate qualifications in finance or investing (e.g. CFA, CAIA, FIAA or similar) desirable.
