The Red Jewel Group is a group of privately owned, multifaceted companies, who have been supplying high quality strawberry plants to commercial fruit growers across Australia for over 25 years. Along with their new plug plant nursery, their headquarters are located in Armidale, Northern NSW.

The Role
As our new Nursery Irrigation & Plant Health Manager, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing the Plant Health and irrigation management at our plug plant nursery in Armidale, including the proficient use of the Priva irrigation management system. As a leader in our team, you can expect to be involved in working collaboratively with our management team to achieve Red Jewels quantitative and time-based outcomes.
How will you do this?
- Be hands on in monitoring overall Plant Health and, where necessary, determine and implement the appropriate methods to achieve Red Jewels expected plant standards.
- Develop and implement irrigation plans based on weather and plant requirements to achieve projected plant requirement outcomes.
- Ensure the Priva irrigation system is consistently operating at the required level, including conducting calibration and basic repair and maintenance requirements of the irrigation system.
- Analyse data to identify areas for improvement and optimise water efficiencies.
- Keep clear and accurate records of Plant Health and irrigation operations.
- Stay up to date with and implement innovative irrigation technologies to increase efficiency and sustainability.
- Ensure all machinery and equipment associated with irrigation and spraying is used correctly and in accordance with safety standards.
About You
Above all, we are looking for a knowledgeable team player who has strong attention to detail. Whilst a background in propagation or agronomy will be advantageous, we encourage candidates who have demonstrated relevant experience in the Horticulture/propagation industry to apply.
In addition to this, you will…
- Have excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills
- Be self-motivated with a desire to exceed operational expectations
- Have a high attention to detail and strong computer ability for record keeping and QA requirements
- Have exposure to protected cropping irrigation and climate automation systems
- Be able to work both independently and collaboratively to determine the nutritional and disease preventative requirements for nursery plants
- Have a strong understanding of plant physiology and substrate irrigation principles
- Have demonstrated knowledge of, or transferrable skills to understand, the Priva Irrigation system.
- Need an unrestricted manual drivers licence
