Band 8 - Salary Range $120,224 - $134,591 per annum + 11% Super + ADO

The Opportunity

The Information Technology department contributes to this vision by transforming Melton City Council service delivery to achieve operational excellence, build community trust and enhancing citizen experience when engaging with council services.
As the IT Compliance and Risk Officer, you will ensure the council’s IT department adheres to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and relevant internal policies. As part of your role, you will be assessing potential risks, implementing controls, and developing strategies to mitigate IT-related risks and potential vulnerabilities, collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain a secure and compliant IT environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret relevant laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001) to ensure the organisation's IT practices remain compliant.
  • Identify and assess IT-related risks to systems, data, and processes, considering internal and external threats. Develop risk assessment frameworks and methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain IT compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines. Communicate these to staff and provide training to ensure understanding and adherence.
  • Prepare and present Compliance and Risk reports to senior management and stakeholders, outlining the current state of IT Compliance and identifying areas for improvement.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
  • Bachelor's degree and further formal qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CISA, CISSP, CRISC), alternatively lesser formal qualifications together with extensive and diverse experience, or intensive specialist experience.
  • Substantial experience and expertise worked in IT compliance, risk management, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with IT governance, risk management, and compliance tools.
  • A high level of interpersonal, cross-cultural and communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex IT environments and identify potential risks.
