Role Overview:
Join our team as an Automation Tester and be at the forefront of enhancing and maintaining critical applications that support identity, authentication, and authorisation frameworks. As a key member of our team, you'll collaborate closely with stakeholders and Government partners to develop and implement automation strategies aligned with project goals and organizational objectives.
Effective communication is essential in this role, as you will be tasked with conveying information across diverse media types and styles, tailored to the varied audiences within the Department. Your ability to adapt to the agency’s operational methodologies and exhibit flexibility and agility in collaborative efforts and service delivery will be crucial to your success.
Job Responsibilities:
Experience as an Automation Tester:
- Contribute towards defining a Test Automation framework and the automation of manual testing tasks across multiple projects
- Apply sound technical understanding of relevant automated test tools and related technologies (e.g. Selenium, Appium, Specflow and automation framework) in development of automated test suites, preferably with experience automating mobile application testing.
- Apply practical programming experience using .Net (preferably C#), SQL, XML, and package management (e.g. nuget, npm etc) and experience with Github repository management.
- Identify and automate manual test cases where necessary.
- Take ownership, plan, and execute both functional and non-functional tests within agreed timeframes.
- Implement and manage continuous automated testing integration using Microsoft tools with Azure DevOps experience being highly desirable.
- Adhere to the ATO’s system development methodologies in all test activities.
- Develop a sound business understanding ensuring tests are defined and developed, with close alignment to the business use of the system.
- Extend and enhance the System documentation repository, covering new or changed system functionality.
- Ability to communicate testing outcomes clearly and succinctly in a test closure report.
Working in a Team:
- Experience in working collaboratively with Scrum Masters, Delivery Leads, Release Leads, Release Train Engineer, Tech Leads, Test Leads, Architects, System Analysts, other Developers, Management, and Stakeholders as a Senior Developer to see through products from inception to production and to BAU (Business as Usual).
- High team collaboration for all work undertaken to build team culture.
- Work with the team to improve code quality through code reviews, writing unIT Tests, and automation.
- Experience working in an agile project delivery team.
- Support the testers to plan and where required, execute both functional and non-functional tests within agreed timeframes.
- Keep Team members regularly informed of progress on work, and of any risk to meeting release timelines or quality standards.
- Pro-active participation in Agile events including sprint planning, demos, reviews, daily stand-ups etc.
- Work with the product and design team to understand end-user requirements and use cases. Translated into a pragmatic and effective technical solution.
- Highly desirable that you have experience with DevOps and CI/CD, preferably with relevant experience using Azure DevOps and PowerShell.
Communication:
- Can confidently use a range of communication channels, to communicate fluently and effectively, clearly explains complex concepts to individuals and groups, tailor communication to the audience without personal bias and use effective communication styles and sound arguments to influence others.
- Ability to write fluently in a range of styles and formats.

- Develop and maintain a network with others internally and externally, build relationships with team members, management, and a range of stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement:
- Research and develop continuous improvement processes to enhance procedures of current and new work practices.
- Develop and maintain necessary levels of expertise and take responsibility for sharing knowledge with others.
- Actively mentor and train junior staff members.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and have the chance to contribute innovative and original ideas to our product.
- Encourage and promote quality excellence within the team, ensure that work practices are effective and consistent, and that best practice is identified and shared.
