Junior Analyst

The Online Hate Prevention Institute, a Registered Australian Charity, is seeking a casual Junior Analyst based in Bundaberg. The role primarily involves collecting and analysing online hate speech, writing articles, and providing training around online hate. The role will particularly suit a university student studying criminology, law, journalism, or sociology and interested in technology issues impacting society. Training will be provided.

The role will involve on average 38 hours each month (roughly 9 hours a week) until the end of 2024. The pay rate is $32.10 an hour. Work will be largely remote (i.e. work from home), with some in-person attendance required for training and delivery of workshops. There is a high degree of flexibility for most of the work, including the ability to work outside of normal working hours.

About you:

• An interest in combating racism and other forms of hate, experience in anti-racism or anti-hate projects or campaigns is an advantage
• Experience with at least 4 social media platform (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Reddit)
• Demonstrated ability to write high quality articles e.g. for a newspaper / magazine, blog posts, social media articles. 
• An academic knowledge of racism would be an advantage. 
• A working with children check and a current national police check are required for this role. If you don't have these already, a job offer will be conditional on obtaining them.
