Job Description
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time person with a Programming background to join our Sydney office. The position is ideal for a Data Analyst with IT background and an interest in analysing ocean and physical science processes. The role offers an opportunity to diversify the application of your computing and data analytics experience to real-world physical process applications, whilst leading our initiatives to improve computational, databasing and data delivery both internally and to our clients.
This is an opportunity to leverage your analytical skills and development expertise to solve complex problems and drive significant impact. This diverse role will include mentoring and advice from experienced senior software and engineering/science professionals in the global Baird team.
Baird undertake projects throughout Australia and there will be opportunities to be involved in projects worldwide as part of the global Baird team. We also operate operational systems for clients worldwide and this role will support the development and maintenance of those systems.
You will play a key role in:
- Performing comprehensive data analysis, including descriptive statistics and predictive modelling.
- Communicating findings effectively through reports, presentations, and interactive dashboards.
- Collaborating with internal and external developers to maintain and enhance existing web applications.
- Contributing to the development of new web applications, ensuring robust functionality and user experience.
- Developing and utilizing Python scripts to automate tasks, manipulate data, and support various analysis needs.
- A computer science, maths, statistics, physics or related university degree (graduated Bachelors, MSc, PhD or last year MSc/PhD student).
- Strong capability and interest in data analytics and problem solving.
- Strong programming experience and related data science libraries.
- Experience with cloud computing and services such as AWS or Azure.
- Programming skills in web development technologies, such as: Angular, Vue.js, Javascript/Typescript.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
- An ability to work within a team environment and individually.
- Be self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- A background or willingness to learn coastal and oceanography theory (e.g. wave forecasting).
- Possessing comfort and experience working with Linux-based systems, including command-line proficiency and basic system administration tasks.
- Proficiency in Python programming and familiar with relevant data analysis libraries.
- Experience in working with Linux environment and bash scripting.
- Software version control in either SVN or GIT.
- Experience with data visualisation tools or frameworks i.e. tableau, D3.js, ggplot2 etc.
- Experience with administration and configuration of Windows™ domain systems.
