AddressRole: Junior Lawyer/Paralegal, Stephens Lawyers & Consultants –Melbourne CBD
Full time position starting end of May 2024 or earlier.
Salary: commensurate with the level of experience and skills.
Stephens Lawyers & Consultants is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Junior Lawyer or Paralegal to join a fast-paced and dynamic boutique commercial law firm specialising in intellectual property, consumer and competition law, defamation law, technology/privacy and data protection law, entertainment and media law and regulatory compliance with the Therapeutic Goods Act and other laws.
The role involves supporting the Principal and team members and will involve client contact while working with a Principal.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving and responding to telephone/email enquiries from prospective clients
- Preparing Costs Agreements/Disclosure documents and opening of new files
- Drafting legal correspondence and documents
- Undertaking legal research
- Assisting with preparation of court documents including briefs to counsel, court books, affidavits, witness statements and statutory declarations
- Assisting with filing; indexing documents and compiling exhibits
- Email and electronic document and file management
- Liaising with clients under Principal supervision
- Performing general administrative tasks including diary management and scheduling meetings
- Assisting with the monthly billing process
- Assisting with marketing and business development
- Providing general support to the Principals and staff as required
Skills
Ability to effectively communicate with clients, team members and other stakeholders.
Advanced research and analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interesting and challenging work.
Ability to confidently manage and prioritise work.
Proficiency in data management software and Microsoft Office suite.
A study of intellectual property law and commercial law is desirable.
