ABOUT THE ROLE
There is an exciting opportunity to join national peak industry body during a period of unprecedented growth and transformation.
This role appeals to a high performing individual that wants to make real impact.
As the Junior Policy Advisor, you will help advocate, educate and lobby government at all levels, while helping to maintain and update industry policies to ensure OMA members meet community standards.
Your role is critical in ensuring the OMA’s successful government engagement that protects and advances the industry. This requires you to be part influencer, part problem solver, and part top-notch communicator. 
Your role consists of three main functions:
Lobbying
Advocacy
Education
The lobbying will see you assist the CEO and Senior Policy Advisor to improve regulation of OOH advertising in terms of Town Planning, Road Safety and Content Restrictions. It also involves identifying issues as they arise and writing briefing documents, letters and submissions.
The advocacy involves helping to build the profile of the industry and the OMA through programs, thought-leadership events and white papers. We use a variety of different channels to get our message out, such as government agencies, think tanks and industry groups.
The education requires you to provide member training, update policies and position papers to support the industry’s goals and objectives. You will need strong writing skills to maintain policies and communication skills to ensure they are well understood by industry and government.
The Junior Policy Advisor reports to the Senior Policy Advisor and CEO.
This position is suitable for a recent graduate or an emerging professional with 1-2 years of experience in Communication, Public Relations, Government Relations or similar industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and advise the Senior Policy Advisor and CEO of issues affecting the industry and develop policies and strategy papers that help strengthen the industry’s position.
Identify new opportunities, as well as campaigns and events to educate and advocate to government about the industry working in conjunction with the Marketing team.
Research national and international developments affecting the industry with the aim of providing research to support our communications.
Develop and deliver member training programs on OMA, industry and government policies.
Review industry standards and compliance documents and update OMA policies.
Advise OMA members on content compliance based on industry codes and policies.
Support research projects that provide the evidence base for stakeholder strategies.
Ensure consistently high service standards are delivered to members and stakeholders and ensure that all opportunities to promote, advocate and lobby on behalf of the industry are maximised and communicated internally.

ABOUT THE OMA
The OMA is the national peak industry body that represents companies that display advertisements, own signs, and provide services to the industry.
Out of Home (OOH) advertising is seen outside the home on a variety of signs (eg billboards, light rail wraps, bus shelters), across various locations (eg roads, airports, shopping centres).   
The OMA is the voice of the sector, working to build a more sustainable future for its members by developing relationships with its stakeholders and showcasing the creative and economic potential of the media channel.
The OOH advertising industry is a $1.2 billion industry and collectively, OMA members generate close to 100 per cent of OOH advertising revenue in Australia.
