The Social Policy Group (SPG) is a national body with specialist expertise in social policy, social and community cohesion, population diversity, gender equality, access and equity, community participation and inclusion, systems’ responsiveness, community outreach and engagement, and digital and multilingual communications. SPG is an umbrella organisation for a number of national bodies and initiatives, including Harmony Alliance: Migrant and Refugee Women for Change, Migration Council Australia, Migrant and Refugee Health Partnership, Centre of Digital Wellbeing, and Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity, among others.
About the position
The successful applicant will support the Senior Manager for Gender Equity to help drive and meet the policy objectives of the Harmony Alliance: Migrant and Refugee Women for Change. The Junior Policy Officer, Gender Equity will be responsible for helping to identify key policy opportunities, assembling, interpreting and analysing information, writing briefings and reports, working effectively with other stakeholder and support Harmony Alliance Secretariat duties.
Primary responsibilities
• Supporting the development and review of policy advice and briefings.
• Writing research reports, submissions and policy briefings in line with the direction by the supervisor.
• Assembling, interpreting and analysing information.
• Supporting the liaisement with and maintain key stakeholder relationships with Harmony Alliance Members.
• Carrying out other duties in this regard as requested by the supervisor.
• Support the management of projects delivered by the Harmony Alliance.
The mix of activities in this role varies in accordance with work priorities and can shift from week to week. Flexibility, versatility and resourcefulness are essential in our small team.
Key selection criteria
Essential:
▪ Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
▪ Prior experience with stakeholder engagement and management.
▪ Experience in working in a complex and dynamic environment that is focused on quality outcomes.
▪ High levels of organisation and ability to handle multiple tasks, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
▪ Strong computer literacy skills.
▪ Adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively and independently within a small team.
▪ Experience in project management support.
Desirable:
▪ Understanding of, and commitment to social issues, including the issues of migrants and refugees women.
▪ Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
▪ Knowledge of government and public policy processes.
