Job description

An exciting and unique opportunity exists for talented and passionate individuals to join the Policy, Communication and Coordination Branch as Senior Policy Officer to contribute to the ground-breaking work of the Group in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights.

The Policy, Communication and Coordination Branch sits within the Self Determination Policy and Transformation Division and leads and facilitates a whole-of-government approach on Aboriginal affairs to improve outcomes for First Peoples.

As the Senior Policy Officer you will develop and provide strategic, clear, evidence-based and solution-focussed policy advice to DPC executives, the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, and the Premier on a range of First Peoples self-determination policy and project priorities. You will also prepare correspondence, briefings, Cabinet submissions and reports on sensitive issues to a high standard within tight timelines for the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, the Premier, Secretary and executives.


About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Understanding and awareness of Aboriginal self-determination reform priorities for Victorian Aboriginal communities
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare complex briefs, submissions, letters, reports and correspondence
  • Proven ability to initiate, deliver and manage strategic projects on time and to a high standard

Please note that experience working with Aboriginal communities and organisations is a mandatory requirement of the role.
