About the Cafe
The Café at Harry’s Place was purpose built by Carpentaria to offer meaningful training and employment opportunities. We want to support people with a disability to develop their hospitality skills and live their best life.
Our Café is dedicated to serving fantastic coffee and fresh lunch options in a friendly and welcoming environment.
About the role
Harry's Place Café requires an engaging, courteous Kitchen Hand who is passionate about food preparation and customer service. This position involves working in a not-for-profit café which offers opportunities for training and employment for people of all abilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting cafe team to prepare, cook and present cafe food, including catering orders and daily specials
- Maintaining kitchen and service areas to comply with food safety standards, regulations and quality controls
- Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases, in the dining area, or behind the counter
- Ensuring adequate food stock and rotation of stored food
- Work alongside the team to receive food deliveries, ensuring prompt and correct storage
- Completing monthly stock take
- Café cleaning duties including, but not limited to emptying bins and sanitising equipment/utensils, cleaning coffee machines and other food/drink preparation equipment
- Providing support to trainees taking part in disability employment program
- Serving of food and drinks, including taking customer orders and table service to the dining area, as well any other duties directed by Café Supervisor and Chef
This position offers great lifestyle hours Mon-Fri, with shifts rostered between 6am - 3pm.
About you
We are looking for someone with kitchen and hospitality experience who is passionate about food and beverage preparation and delivering exceptional customer service. You will be friendly and professional, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Minimum one years' experience as a Kitchen Hand in a café or restaurant
- A passion and love for good quality food and coffee
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a broad range of people
- Ability to work efficiently, effectively and productively as part of a small team
- Ability to thrive in a busy environment and remain calm under pressure at all times
- Commitment to working with and supporting people with a disability
- Certificate II or above in Kitchen Operations / Hospitality (preferred but not essential)
- Certificate in Food Safety/Food Handling (preferred but not essential)
- Barista or baking skills a bonus!
You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, First Aid & CPR Certificate and NT Drivers Licence.
