Macquarie Geotech is continuing to grow its Melbourne laboratory and looking for a Laboratory Manager with a strong technical background in the Construction Materials industry to lead the team for an immediate start.
The position is for a proven Laboratory Manager with a background in concrete and aggregates testing.
Reporting to the Laboratory Operations Manager and working in conjunction with the Victorian CMT Manager, your primary focus will be to lead the Laboratory team and support concrete and aggregate testing across Melbourne.
Duties and responsibilities but not limited to:
- Supervise, mentor and train a team of Geotechnical Technicians within the concrete and aggregate laboratory and work collaboratively with the CMT team.
- Have a strong understanding of Soils, Aggregates, Concrete and VicRoads test methods in accordance with AS1289, AS1141, AS1012.
- Laboratory signatory for all concrete and aggregate test methods.
- Coordination of day-to-day operational requirements of the testing laboratory.
- Liaison with internal staff and clients on testing schedules, methods, procedures and results.
- Overseeing the sampling, testing and reporting in accordance with the specifications, using appropriate test methods.
- Preparation of test reports and generating invoices.
- Experience in Business Development and Marketing and assist with preparing and issuing proposals.
- Proactively manage client relations and expectations.
- Supporting and providing technical advice to the wider team.
- Project management skills.
- Ensure business compliance with QMS, IEC/ISO 17025, and associated documentation.
Requirements:
- Diploma in Laboratory techniques or similar (Preferred).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within the CMT Industry.
- Working knowledge of IEC/ISO 17025, ISO 9001, other ISO standards and Quality Management Systems is essential.
- Understand health and safety in the laboratory environment, methodical accurate, with a good attention to detail.
- Able to communicate effectively and explain scientific information to staff and clients at all levels.
- Competence in IT, including LIMS, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Understanding of quality KPI’s, measures and ability to effect change to improve.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Auditing experience.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Driver’s license is essential;
- Nuclear gauge license is desirable.
