As the Laboratory Technician you perform experiments that support the design and development of novel human pathogen diagnostic products. You will perform some routine experiments with some trouble shooting and developmental experiments. It is essential that you have a good eye for data and can confidently analyse data sets to help drive decisions and meet project milestones.
Key tasks of this role include:
- Conducting a range of molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction and quantitation, and qPCR
- Analysing data and report writing
- Being involved with preparing and revising documents such as SOPs and study protocols
- General laboratory and equipment maintenance duties.
What do you need?
We are looking for someone who loves all things molecular microbiology or diagnostics with a keen eye for the end result – patient outcomes. It is important that you bring exposure to DNA/RNA extraction and PCR techniques as this will be a core function of the laboratory tasks.
Previous experience in human pathogens, diagnostics, veterinary microbiology/diagnostics and even food microbiology may provide a strong background for you to be successful in this role. If you enjoy learning and want to break into industry, this is a rare opportunity to get your foot in the door!
Key requirements of this role include:
- Honours or Masters qualification in science (or near completion)
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in molecular microbiology, molecular biology, or clinical/diagnostic microbiology
- Hands-on laboratory experience with DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR/real-time PCR
- Strong attention to detail to effectively contribute to technical writing and follow complex procedures
- Demonstrate a high degree of initiative with the ability to conduct experiments with minimal supervision.
