It is the largest Australian research centre in this field and collaborates with major mining and mineral processing research groups worldwide.Information for Prospective StaffInformation about life at UQ including staff benefits, relocation and UQ campuses is available at -About This OpportunityThe Laboratory Technician undertakes a range of technical, operational and administrative tasks which directly support the effective operation of the JKMRC Flotation Chemistry laboratory.Key responsibilities will include:Under routine direction, assist in the conduct of experiments and research programs both in the laboratory and on mine sites, with a focus on flotation testingUndertake sample preparation and sizing of samples produced from experiments for subsequent analytical analysis.Maintain documents and records of experiments, including laboratory notebooks, research databases and registersProcure and organize maintenance of research specific equipment and consumables, in accordance with relevant University policy and proceduresDevelop, maintain and follow SOP’s and laboratory proceduresMaintain a high standard of laboratory housekeeping and manage sample receipt, storage, waste disposal and chemical inventoryAssist with the training of researchers and students in the use of laboratory equipment and operating proceduresLiaise with internal Production Centres’ staffAttend and contribute to laboratory safety meetingsThis is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 12 Months.At HEW level 4, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $71,640.06 - $75,957.51, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $83,818.87 - $88,870.29 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.About YouWe are looking for a highly motivated, team-focused person seeking the next step in their Laboratory Technician career. This role involves working in a minerals processing laboratory, specialising in mineral flotation and Flotation Chemistry.Completion of a Diploma in Laboratory Technology; or Completion of a Certificate IV with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/trainingExperience of working in a metallurgical research laboratory and/or mine siteDocumented experience in assisting in the conduct of mineral processing specific research programsTechnical capabilities in the execution of on-site mineral processing plant sampling surveys (comminution and flotation)Experience using standard metallurgical laboratory equipment, including jaw crushers, rotary splitters, sizing equipment, batch flotation cells, laboratory ball millsDocumented experience in the procurement and maintenance of laboratory equipment and consumablesAttention to detail, ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasksAbility to work independently and exercise sound judgmentAbility to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary teamDocumented experience developing SOPs and laboratory manualsAbility to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary teamIn addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
