Overview
To contribute to the design, planning, and coordination of a locality's open space and public domain areas, ensuring that future growth areas are well-organized, interconnected, unified, and conducive to living, with top-notch infrastructure and facilities that cater to the community's requirements.
Key accountabilities/responsibilities
- Generate and formulate conceptual designs suitable for internal and external consultation in diverse open space and public domain projects.
- Create documentation, specifications, and cost estimates for tender issuance and construction in various open space and public domain projects.
- Develop strategies and master plans for open space and public domain areas to guide the capital works program formulation.
- Collaborate with the Team Leader Public Domain Design and relevant internal stakeholders to craft project briefs for engaging consultants in open space and public domain projects.
- Oversee the consultant engagement quotation process in line with Camden's policies and procedures.
- Monitor and manage consultant performance to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure project compliance with statutory requirements, necessary approvals, and adherence to required standards and policies.
- Support project reporting through Council's Project Management Framework.
- Offer expert technical advice to other Council Departments for optimizing outcomes in open space and public domain areas.
- Assist in developing Council's open space and public domain guidelines.
- Aid the Team Leader Public Domain Design in scheduling public domain projects and studies.
- Cultivate effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and formal correspondence.
- Review landscape drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by consultants for land developers and other Council departments.
- Ensure project delivery within specified timelines and budget constraints.
- Undertake additional responsibilities within the scope of the employee's skills, competence, and training.
- Advocate for Landscape Architecture and its role in enhancing the quality of life for Camden's communities.
- Encourage and participate in a culture of design collaboration across the organization.
- Proactively facilitate processes to enhance design involvement in critical decisions across various Council projects and strategies.
- Actively contribute to implementing continuous improvement opportunities for enhancing Camden's efficiency and processes.
- Stay updated on legislation, policies, and procedures impacting the role.
- Perform other relevant duties as directed by the Team Leader or Manager.
- Provide backup support and assistance to other officers in the Public Domain Design Team as needed.
- Adhere to Council's Fraud and Corruption Prevention Policy and Plan, demonstrating zero tolerance for fraudulent or corrupt practices.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & experience
- Possession of a tertiary degree in Landscape Architecture (with eligibility for membership to the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects) or a related discipline, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of employment experience in the field.
- Proven track record in managing and actively participating in multi-disciplinary planning and design projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in design and project management, showcasing the ability to oversee multiple projects, manage consultants, and prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely and budget-compliant project delivery.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft desktop software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- High level of competency in computer-aided design packages, particularly AutoCAD.
- Outstanding skills in preparing graphics using software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Exceptional oral, written, and graphic communication skills, enabling effective conveyance of project information and influence on outcomes.
- Capability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a work team.
- Capacity for independent decision-making, coupled with the ability to think strategically and creatively within the framework of Council policies and procedures.
