About us
We are a modern Australian law firm with a leading reputation. We focus on exceptional service, operational excellence and being at the forefront of employee experience. We work closely with Australian and international businesses, organisations and governments.
About the role
We are currently looking for a Lawyer/Associate to join our high-performing Public Law - Probity team led by Partners Simonetta Astolfi and Sunny Leow. The team is based in both Melbourne and Canberra so this role can be based in either location.
This role will be responsible for providing pragmatic, solutions-focussed commercial advice, contract drafting, procurement and probity advice to Commonwealth Government agencies (including at senior levels), to supervise other lawyers, help grow the practice, and generally support the Partners in a strong team environment. You will have the opportunity to work on complex, interesting and nation-building projects.
About you
Ideally you will have experience advising clients and helping solve problems and enjoy working collaboratively and contributing in a team environment. You should bring a sense of openness to learning new skills, and you will bring a level of common sense and pragmatism to your practice of the law. You should be able to understand the ‘big picture’, as well as having strong attention to detail and sound technical legal skills.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
- 2-10+ years’ experience as a lawyer working with government clients
- Contracting, procurement and/or grant experience
- Probity and governance
- General commercial experience
- Strong emotional intelligence and inter-personal skills
- A keenness to learn
We are open to this being a part-time role and we work flexibly at Maddocks with part of our week in the office.
