In this multi-faceted role, you will be responsible for the management of the welfare of the hens on our farm on the Mornington Peninsula. Conduct regular shed visits to assess flock health, behaviour, and production metrics. To the other end of the farm where you will need to be technically minded to help maintain and run a Staalkat Egg Grading machine.
Our ideal candidate will be motivated with a go-getter attitude, and happy to chip in wherever necessary. Demonstrated experience supervising a culturally diverse team will be highly regarded as well as a minimum of 2 years experience or exposure with the intensive animal farming space.
To be considered for the position, it's important you can address the following:
* Ensuring animal welfare and adherence to guidelines.
* Troubleshoot technical issues related to egg production and hen health.
* Calibrating and adjust control system settings to achieve the optimum environment
* Routinely perform post-mortem on deceased stock and report findings.
* Assist in overseeing bio-security measures to prevent disease outbreaks, including vaccinations, sanitation, and hygiene protocols.
* Conduct risk assessments and recommend improvements to enhance bio-security practices on the farm.
* Provide guidance on the proper implementation of policies and procedures across the farm.
* Ability to analyse data and make data-driven decisions to optimise flock performance.
• Maintaining and presenting the farm and equipment to the highest standards possible at all times
• Proven Workplace Health and Safety systems management and creating a culture of safety first work practices;
Assist on the grading floor to keep Staalkat Egg grader run efficiently and effectively
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and collaborate with farm staff.
* Proficiency in record-keeping and report generation.
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Maintaining and operating egg conveyors and packers to keep things running smoothly.
* Availability for weekends and rostering, including alarm calls
* Due to strict bio-security policies, applicants must not own chickens, waterfowl, or pigs.
