Lead Civil Engineer

About the role

 The Lead Civil Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day functions as Lead Engineer in overall Civil Engineering discipline.

Provide skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of civil and earthworks engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and best industry practice. Understands project specific needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions.

Independently evaluate, organise and priorities work which is subject to internal checking and approval.

Interface with other Project Management, Project Directors, and engineering management and leads.

Co-ordinate technical activities performed inside or outside the Company.

In this position you’ll:

• Proficient in Civil Engineering and Design in compliance with the relevant Australian Standards, Main Roads W.A.Standards and Austroads Guidelines.
• Facilitate geotechnical testing, report assessment and define geotechnical design requirements.
• Engage and oversee third party consultants who may be engaged on large scale projects or as required for specialised design.
• Coordinate, review and approve civil calculations, modelling, design reports and construction drawings.
• Provide engineering and design advice and approval on roads, bridges, civil structures, and pads.
• Interface with the design teams during 3D model development of assigned areas.
• Facilitate design and constructability reviews during the design process with the project’s stakeholders.
• Checks and coordinates all ongoing and completed work performed by CAD Designers.
• Responsible for the training and development of engineers in his/her section.
• Ensure accuracy of Materials Take-off lists.
• Provide technical support during civil and structural construction.
• Responsible for all work completed in his/her section.
• Assist in the development of scope of work documents for the engagement of suppliers and contractors.
• Promote cost savings and identify improvement opportunities with regards to design, engineering and work practices

 Necessary skills and qualifications:

• 8+ years’ experience in a similar level role.
• Tertiary Degree Qualification in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered Engineering status in Australia (preferred).
• Strong written, verbal communication and team membership skills.
• Demonstrate a positive “can-do” attitude.
• A high level of project management skills.
• Desire to implement and follow through on multiple issues and projects to achieve productive results.
• High level of PC literacy across Microsoft Office Packages and Civil & Structural design packages.
