wiqRetail is our joint venture with Woolworths, working on greenfield data science projects to be deployed across the Woolworths ecosystem to drive significant commercial value.
The Lead Data Scientist role is responsible for leading and managing a team to deliver high quality data science and analytics solutions to Woolworth stakeholders.
The day to day work includes:
- Providing technical leadership of a high-performing team to deliver impactful projects that create commercial value
- Working on longer-term projects from end to end and owning parts of the solution design and delivery
- Working on industry “firsts” – retail has more opportunity to leverage rich datasets and advanced analytics for new projects than other industries
- Delivering high value projects across different domains, from promotions and pricing, supply chain, people analytics, last mile optimisation (plus some others that we’re not disclosing just yet)
- Working in agile squads to deliver projects and partnering closely with engineers and business stakeholders to drive outcomes
- Exposure to a range of exciting projects, such as building decision engines that feed back into the business
- Delivering high quality analytics, from scoping, data quality assessment, building data tables, EDA, feature engineering, model building, insights generation, and visualisation
- Proactively participate in learning forums and lead knowledge sharing with wider team
What skills and experience do I need?
A Lead Data Scientist is responsible for providing technical leadership to the team, so demonstrable experience here is essential.
We know people are not bullet points, but we would expect you to have:
- A technical degree, such as Actuarial, Maths/Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics etc.
- Experience building predictive models in a commercial environment (experience with XGBoost or LightGBM is advantageous)
- Strong technical experience using SQL, Python or R
- Experience solving commercial problems and generating insights from large customer or transactional data sets
- Experience leading the delivery of analytical solutions in either a consulting or end user business
- Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving skillset
- Previous leadership experience and strong analytical and technical capability
- A collaborative style and the ability to work with and positively influence a variety of people across all levels and functions will see you succeed
