Job Summary:
As a Lead Mechanical Designer, you will plan, develop, and review mechanical design work, produce drawings and documentation, and p
repare 3D plant models for project review.
You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings and 3D models, solving complex technical issues and ensuring mechanical designs comply with all project and Bechtel standards.
Major Responsibilities:
-Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews design work within a medium-size Mechanical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit.
-Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of crushing and screening plants, conveyors, pump stations, and platework detailing. Ensures Mechanical systems designs comply with all applicable project standards.
-Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of Mechanical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters.
-Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
-Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
-Other responsibilities as designated.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
-Requires 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
 
Required Knowledge and Skills:
-Bulk materials handling experience essential.
-Experience in the design of conveyors and layout development of transfer stations is essential.
-Proven experience in engineering design tools such as Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation and Navisworks.
-Strong communication skills and ability to work well with other team members.
-Work with Senior designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
-Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, reading of drawings, and reproduction methods used by the discipline.
-Experience with multi discipline interface management and global 3D model oversight.
-Expertise in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
-Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design responsibilities.
-Experience in design and drafting, including demonstrated expertise in a lead role.
