As the Leading Hand Arborist you will be responsible for: Providing specialist technical advice and management of trees and vegetation over multiple work groups.
- Inspection and assessment of trees on Melbourne Water land, identifying dead and dangerous trees, and providing recommendations and decisions through accurate reports and advice, including Tree Management Plans and vegetation assessments.
- Supervising and performing ground, tree climbing, and aerial lift duties.
- Coordinating work in a team environment and provide in-field oversight for multiple crews.
- Prioritising the safety and well-being of self and colleagues, identifying and reporting hazards, and supporting improvement initiatives.
- Support a culture of Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
- A valid Driver’s Licence is required as this role requires frequent travel.
- You have a Tertiary qualification in Arboriculture or related discipline (to at least Australian Qualification Framework Level4) or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience in a similar role within Local Government or the private sector.
- Extensive years’ experience in the provision of arboriculture, horticulture or related discipline.
- Other qualifications such as Industry White Card, Chainsaw Ticket, Fall Prevention, and Plant Machinery competency.
- You have sound interpersonal skills and an ability to lead and communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public.
- Ability to lead, work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
- Have a commitment to the mentoring and development of others within the team.
