The Company:
Freedom constructions is locally owned and operated. We have been building a strong reputation within the Cairns community and have been increasing our workload with local government bodies and councils alongside our continuing residential and commercial work. We aim for a 40-45 hour working week.
The Position:
We are seeking a qualified carpenter who is confident in their skills to fill the role of Leading Hand Carpenter. We need someone who is happy to join our friendly and professional team and wants to be part of our company’s success. You will often be left in control of our building sites, coordinating and advising other staff members and subcontractors. You will also be required to liaise with the site supervisor and office staff regularly. You will be responsible and accountable for the actions of your peers when you are left as the onsite representative for Freedom Constructions. Essentially, we are looking for someone who is predominantly on the tools but can also collaborate with office staff to keep the job running on schedule and on budget.

- Ability to work on the tools while being the onsite liaison

- Collaborate with site supervisor and office staff as needed to keep the job on schedule and budget
- Ability to create job materials and quantities lists
- Adhere to the most recent building requirements and codes
- Willingness to grow (and help us grow)

- Be able to adhere to safety requirements
- Extensive tool kit, preferably with a trailer
- A reliable vehicle with the capacity to carry additional tools and materials when required

Key Criteria:
- Certificate 3 in Carpentry & Construction White Card
- Run a job on time and on budget
- Effectively interpret plans
- Identify potential problems and provide practical solutions
- Understands how a job site should be left at the end of each day and on job completion
- Reliable and punctual with a “can do” positive attitude
- Provide outstanding customer service
- Ability to step up and help others
- Time management and organisational skills
- Appropriate vehicle and tools
- Police check certificate and working with children blue card (or ability to obtain these)
Advantageous but not essential
- Certificate 4 in Building and Construction
- Machinery tickets (e.g. bobcat, boom ticket, etc)
- Intermediate computer and email skills
- Experience with cyclone region construction

Freedom Constructions is centrally located in Bungalow, 5 minutes from the city and we predominantly work in the Cairns region. Cairns is an attractive tropical regional city that has a friendly relaxed vibe and is renowned for being a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, tropical rainforest and great fishing!
