Established in 1882, Kincoppal-Rose Bay, School of the Sacred Heart is an Independent Catholic Day and Boarding School (ELC-12) located in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
We are now inviting applications for a Permanent full-time Learning Support Teacher's Aide (Co-Educator). Be part of the diverse and friendly team of teachers and support staff at our iconic harbourside campus, where you will assist with the implementation of targeted interventions to support the learning of students with diverse educational needs (including gifted and talented), both within regular classes and clustered groupings.
The role:
- permanent full-time position
- school term time only: 38 weeks per year
- as part of a whole-school approach, supports students with disabilities to meet their goals as outlined in their personalised learning plans (PLPs), in alignment with evidence-based practices
- supports teachers in the delivery of adjusted curriculum materials and resources (where that adjustment has been pre-determined by the Classroom Teacher and Learning Support Teacher)
- defers to the classroom teacher / Head of Diverse Learning for direction/decisions regarding student learning, providing feedback and making recommendations.
- assists with the administering of disability provisions e.g. reading &/or scribing for exams
- marks tasks and tests and checks students’ homework
- provides supervision and assists staff and students during practical lessons, as well as outside of the classroom (including on camps and excursions)
- supports students in the acquisition of life skills: self-regulation, working with others, time management, situational behaviour
- provides administrative support to the classroom teacher
- maintains effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate:
- relevant tertiary qualification (i.e. in classroom support, with a Special Education focus highly desirable)
- some experience as a Teacher’s Aide preferred
- a demonstrated ability to engage with and develop positive relationships with a range of personalities at all levels of an organisation.
- an advocate for students with diverse learning needs
- flexible and adaptable
- willing and able to suggest ideas for continuous improvement
- well-developed organisational skills
- personable and dynamic with a flair for effective communication in challenging contexts
- current Working with Children Check
- prepared to support the ethos of a Sacred Heart education and be an active and visible participant in the dynamic life of our school.
