You will:

  • contribute to learning and teaching practices within the Biomedical Science discipline;
  • undertake high-impact research;
  • supervise honours students and HDR candidates; 
  • play a part in successful research grant applications; and 
  • contribute to governance, coordination of and participation in the school capacity-building activities, and activities that contribute to the student experience.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will possess strong Biomedical Science subject matter expertise, pedagogical knowledge, and excellent communication skills. You should have a passion for teaching and learning, a student-centered approach, and a commitment to innovative and engaging teaching methods. This includes a deep understanding of pedagogical principles and instructional strategies, effectively implementing teaching methods to enhance student learning outcomes. You will create a conducive learning environment, fostering a positive atmosphere for learning. You should also be skilled in assessment and feedback, designing fair and relevant assessments to evaluate student progress and areas for improvement. Adaptability and flexibility are key, as you will need to adjust your teaching approach based on student feedback and emerging educational trends. Lastly, you must demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, actively seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge, attend workshops, conferences, and engage in research to stay current.

You will possess:

  • academic and professional qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science;
  • postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or equivalent accreditation and standing;
  • substantial laboratory experience in Microbiology Diagnostics in a pathology service;
  • effectiveness as a teacher, which is evidenced by:
    • student feedback on teaching using valid instrument/s, peer review and/or student outcomes, and
    • the capacity to conceive, develop and deliver higher education curricula and contribute to relevant areas of teaching.
  • membership of and sound connections with relevant professional bodies and community groups and/or in professional practice;
  • strong personal qualities and collegial approaches that contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive academic environment which is conducive to high levels of engagement and standards of achievement for both staff and students; and
  • evidence of participation in academic development activities and the desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic.

Desirable

  • completion, or near completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field.
  • postgraduate qualifications in higher education.
  • experience undertaking academic administrative functions, e.g. course coordination, within a University.
  • evidence of research experience, including for example, refereed publications; participation in research teams; co-supervision of candidates for honours and higher degrees by research.
