Job Description

Griffith University’s School of Medicine and Dentistry is currently recruiting to a senior academic leadership role and we are seeking applicants with demonstrated expertise and experience in leading and managing curriculum and course requirements within a medical program.

The Senior Lecturer in Clinical Education is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as playing a major leadership role in the teaching, assessment and curriculum development activities relevant to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. They will also contribute to scholarship, service and professional activities.

A primary responsibility of this role will be the oversight of Phase 3 of the MD program, comprising the final year of the four-year curriculum. This will include coordinating the teaching and learning, assessment, and placement activities; and provision of academic support for students undertaking Phase 3 of the program.

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Dean of Medicine and MD Program Director, the Phase 1 and 2 Leads and clinicians, and will have responsibility for the efficient management of staff and other learning and teaching resources to ensure a high-quality student learning experience. They will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the development of the MD curriculum and assessment within their Phase, and will also have responsibility for engaging, consulting, and supporting the hospital-based Clinical Sub Deans and clinical teachers, as well as community-based clinicians and other relevant stakeholders across all clinical placement sites where Griffith medical students undertake clinical and non-clinical placements, to ensure the delivery of a high-quality learning experience which meets the required learning outcomes. The role includes direct contributions to the delivery of teaching in the MD program including team-based learning, capstone courses, clinical skills and communication skills.

This is a full-time, continuing position based at the Gold Coast campus and it is expected that the successful candidate will be available to attend campus in person as a normal requirement of the role. As the MD program is delivered at the Gold Coast campus, on the Sunshine Coast through the Sunshine Coast Health Institute and Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and through our Rural Clinical School (based on the Darling Downs), it is the expectation that the incumbents will work across sites in collaboration with the relevant University staff and clinicians who support program and course delivery.

As such, you may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises, which the University currently has or may subsequently acquire or at any premises at which it may from time to time provide services.

Salary Range
The full-time equivalent base salary will be Academic Senior Lecturer (Level C) range $132,666 - $152,975 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $155,219 - $178,981 per annum.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will possess the ability to foster an outstanding student experience and to encourage active participation and engagement in learning and teaching across the MD program, facilitating high quality, student-centred learning activities consistent with Griffith Graduates of the Future strategy.

You will have a commitment to fostering innovation and a future-focused approach to support high quality learning and teaching outcomes for students evidenced by technology enhanced learning, problem oriented, authentic learning, and assessment practices. Further, you will have a demonstrated track-record of educational leadership and mentoring of the teaching staff, and in promoting and supporting a student-centred service culture and establishment of positive, respectful, and supportive relationships between staff and students.

In addition you will:

  • Possess a medical degree from a recognised educational institution;
  • Possess a PhD or equivalent qualification in an appropriate discipline, or evidence of progress towards completion; and/or hold professional fellowship(s); and
  • Possess current registration with or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a medical practitioner.
