As part of our commitment to excellence in research and professional practice in academic contexts, we are proud to provide our staff with access to world-class facilities and equipment, grant writing support, greater research funding opportunities, and other forms of staff support and development.

About This Opportunity

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at St Lucia comprises five discipline groups, one of which is Cyber Security and Software Engineering (CSS).  CSS is closely associated with UQ Cyber Security, which has recently created innovative Cyber War Rooms, Agile Security Operation Centre (ASOC) labs, and a Device Testing Lab.  CSS also leads the Master of Cyber Security degree, an interdisciplinary postgraduate degree aligned to the NIST NICE Framework.

We are seeking to grow our Cyber Security research focus, by the addition of a Lecturer (Level B), teaching and research appointment to the CSS team.  The School is ramping up its investment in teaching, research and engagement to create an inspiring, diverse and flexible workplace.  We would like to increase our research strength in areas such as AI for Cyber Security and/or Cyber Security for IoT and/or Cyber Security Benchmarking.  These are growth areas with many opportunities to apply the recent advances in generative AI and large language models (LLM) to Cyber Security challenges such as AI-based intrusion detection, to address IoT security issues for smart homes, smart cities and edge computing, and to develop and analyse high-quality Cyber Security benchmark datasets.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have the demonstrated capability and willingness to teach into the following teaching areas within the school:

  • Introductory and intermediate programming courses

  • Cyber security systems at the introductory, intermediate or advanced undergraduate level

  • Cyber security individual capstone projects and research methods

  • Cyber security for IoT and Edge Computing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

  • Cyber security team projects at the introductory or intermediate undergraduate level

In addition, applicants are expected to be able to teach courses on advanced Cyber Security topics aligned with their area of research expertise.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching & Research

  • Citizenship and Service

This is a teaching & research position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.

This is a full-time continuing position at academic level B. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,201.26 - $128,201.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595.47 - $149,996.05 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

The greater benefits of joining the UQ community are broad:  from being part of a Group of Eight university, to recognition of prior service with other Australian universities, up to 26 weeks of paid parental leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, flexible working arrangements including hybrid on site/WFH options and flexible start/finish times, and genuine career progression opportunities via the academic promotions process.
