About Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA

Flinders University Rural and Remote Health SA (FRRHSA) facilitates high quality multidisciplinary health education and research in our State's regional areas.

We have a strong national and international reputation for providing community-engaged inter-professional training for medical, nursing, and allied health students. This includes offering longitudinal rural clinical placements in years 3 and 4 of the Flinders University MD program. Through this practice, we bring new and exciting opportunities to actively engage and work with rural communities.


About the SA Rural Medical Program

The new SA Rural Medical (SARM) Program is a Commonwealth funded; end-to-end rural medical program based in our Rural SA campuses. The SARM Program is one of the components that forms the University's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program which sits within the College of Medicine and Public Health.

The aim of the SARM Program is to contribute to strengthening the medical workforce in Rural South Australia. This is achieved through the delivery of a fully accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine program that is supported by dedicated academic and professional staff based in our Rural SA campuses. The SARM Program will develop the medical workforce and transform the landscape of Rural and Remote South Australia.


About the Role

This Teaching Specialist (Academic) position in the SA Rural Medical (SARM) Program with its primary focus on teaching and teaching-related activities with a focus on Medical Education including Team Based Learning (TBL) has an important role to play in the University's achievement of its strategic plan, Making a Difference: The 2025 Agenda.

The Lecturer in Medical Education in Team-Based Learning (TBL) will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across the suite of medical topics in the South Australia Rural Medical (SARM) Program. The Lecturer in Medical Education will be responsible for making an independent contribution to teaching and the scholarship of teaching using innovations in teaching practices and technologies to deliver excellence in teaching.


About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD, or equivalent qualification in Medicine or Health
  • Experience of significant teaching and learning experience and excellence at a tertiary level in Medical Education and/or health
  • Knowledge and experience in active learning methodologies, such as Team Based Learning (TBL) and experience in fostering collaborative learning environments
  • Discipline-specific knowledge in Medical year 1 and 2 subject areas, with a focus on the scholarship of learning and teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture, and role modelling behaviours that support the University's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and commitment to enhancing educational and research advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Demonstrated experience or capability to engage with students (and deliver teaching modules) via online learning platforms. Evidence of student-centred approach.
