  • Base Salary, level B/C $118,390 - $167,221 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Psychology at the University of Sydney is seeking applications from exceptional candidates for four Lecturers and Senior Lecturers (Level B/C). The School welcomes applications from any field in Psychology, particularly those aligned to the School's existing strengths. The successful candidates will contribute to enhancing the School's research and teaching profile.

The School of Psychology consistently ranks among the best in the world. In the most recent QS World University Rankings, the School ranked in the Top 3 Psychology departments in Australia and the Top 30 in the world, with the University of Sydney ranking in the Top 20 universities in the world.

The School is one of eight in the Faculty of Science and has a global reputation for its outstanding research and teaching, with strengths in Experimental Psychology (e.g. perception, learning, cognition), Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience (e.g. animal models, neural systems, computational modelling), Applied Psychology (e.g. health, coaching, social, and individual differences), and Clinical Psychology (adult and child mental health, aging/dementia, addiction). The School delivers world class education across accredited programmes at all levels; Bachelor, Honours, Master of Clinical Psychology, and Higher Degree Research tracks (PhD, MPhil) as well as a Master of Science in Coaching Psychology. The School is very well-resourced and is renowned for its supportive environment whereby success comes from collaboration and mentoring among our staff. The School is also part of several Multi-Disciplinary Initiatives (e.g. Brain & Mind Centre, Charles Perkins Centre) providing excellent opportunities to work in high impact multi-disciplinary teams.

About you

Lecturer who has or can demonstrate the capacity to achieve the following:

  • a PhD in Psychology or closely related discipline
  • independently conduct high quality research that builds on and/or supports the School's existing strengths, including publishing research in high quality international peer-reviewed journals
  • submit applications for nationally competitive research funding (e.g. ARC/NHRMC/MRFF) and/or for industry/stakeholder-linked funding
  • establish an independent research programme and develop a successful research team, including national and/or international collaborations
  • provide outstanding research training (e.g. honours/PhD)
  • deliver high quality teaching, including developing innovative course content and assessments
  • contribute to curriculum development in an area relevant to psychology
  • exhibit high quality communication and organisational skills relevant to managing research and teaching
  • contribute to governance, leadership, and engagement within the School and across the broader University
  • work collaboratively with other academic and professional staff, including fostering and enhancing principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Senior Lecturer who, in addition to above, has demonstrated capacity to:

  • establish and lead a team of researchers to enhance the standing of the School
  • secure nationally competitive research funding (e.g. ARC/NHRMC/MRFF) and/or industry/stakeholder-linked funding
  • lead curriculum development than enhances student learning in the Psychology curriculum.
