Join QBE as a Legal Counsel, reporting into the General Counsel, where you will provide crucial legal support and strategic guidance to drive business initiatives forward. In this role, you will manage a diverse portfolio of legal matters under the mentorship of senior counsel, ensuring alignment with QBE's strategic priorities and adherence to legal standards. Your responsibilities will include offering timely legal advice to various business units, conducting thorough legal research, analyzing complex issues, and presenting clear recommendations to management. You will play a key role in mitigating legal risks, drafting and negotiating contracts, managing litigation matters, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to foster legal compliance and support corporate policies. Additional Responsibilities:
• Anticipate and address legal issues proactively, advising management on strategic solutions.
• Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using expertise to resolve legal inquiries and support issue resolution.
• Conduct legal research, draft documents, and assist with regulatory compliance for basic to moderate risk matters.
• Provide counsel on basic to moderate impact legal issues, assessing risks and recommending solutions within specific business segments or functional areas.
• Collaborate across functions to contribute to decision-making and team outcomes, supporting policy development and offering legal expertise.
• Promote legal risk awareness and a culture of risk management across business units.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, internal policies, and governance.
• Monitor legal developments to propose organizational strategies in response.
• Prioritize tasks and delegate effectively to enhance departmental efficiency.
• Help establish and maintain effective legal processes and documentation.
• Share knowledge and support team development, actively pursuing growth opportunities.
About youWe are seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel to join QBE. The ideal candidate must be admitted to practice as an Australian Legal Practitioner and will demonstrate a pragmatic, results-oriented approach with a professional and positive demeanour. Key competencies include the ability to assess compliance with laws and regulations, communicate effectively, and escalate issues when necessary. Critical thinking, sound judgment, and meticulous attention to detail are essential for success in this role. The candidate should excel in managing competing responsibilities, employing effective research techniques, and have a solid understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, particularly in insurance.
