Legal Counsel
An exciting opportunity currently exists for a motivated and experienced, Legal Counsel to join our fast paced and dedicated legal team with a great work ethic, excellent communication skills and strategic thinking approach within the established Division of Yamaha Financial Services reporting to the group General Counsel.
Attending to legal matters including but not limited to commercial, financial and insurance.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Providing advice on commercial contracts, disputes, consumer claims, finance, insurance, marketing, franchising, and intellectual property.
- Guiding management on legal matters and mentor junior legal resources.
- Managing contract review and execution processes.
- Providing advice on the legal and legislative environment and upcoming trends.
- Providing training to the business on relevant topics, including (but not limited to) the PPSA, NCCPA, ASIC Act.
- In conjunction with external counsel, managing the review, drafting and advice process regarding loan contracts, insurance product documentation and third-party product disclosure statements.
- Assist in preparing reports and responses to requests for information.
- Coordinating the provision of legal advice for the New Zealand financial services and insurance business units that form part of Yamaha Financial Services.
- Reviewing sales and marketing collateral (inclusive of competition terms and conditions) that requires review and approval prior to market production; and
- Working closely with the group risk and compliance department on various aspect of the business.
Key Requirements
- In your career to date, you will likely have earned at least 5-6 years PQE in a law firm or alternatively in-house in a large corporation, with business advisory on general legal and compliance skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB), Master of Laws (LLM), with strong academic credentials.
- Strong knowledge of finance and insurance products, including financial services Regulations, ASIC Act, PPS Act, Privacy Act, National Consumer Credit Protection Act, AML/CTF Act, Insurance Contracts Act, General Insurance Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of the Corporations Act and Competition and Consumer Act is desirable.
