ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate lawyer or junior lawyer to join a closely-knit in-house legal team as a Legal Counsel. Working together with the Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel & Company Secretary, you will receive mentoring and training, enabling you to grow and play a pivotal role in providing legal support and guidance across the organisation.
Based in Melbourne CBD, this role reports to the Senior Legal Counsel. You will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice, reviewing and drafting commercial legal documents, assisting with claims and litigation, and providing expertise on privacy matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide clear and practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on a diverse range of legal matters, including making legal risk assessments and developing pragmatic solutions.
- Review and draft commercial contracts, property leases and other legal documents.
- Assist with claims and litigation.
- Assist in providing advice to the business on insurance matters.
- Advise on privacy matters, responses to regulator queries, and investigations.
- Review and advise on marketing and promotional materials and initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with the Risk and Compliance Team to support organisational objectives.
ABOUT YOU
To excel in this role, you should possess a Bachelor of Law degree and be admitted to practice in Australia with at least 1-2 years of post-qualification experience. Ideally, you have previous experience in a mid to top-tier law firm or in a corporate or property in-house legal role, working in a fast-paced environment.
Your expertise includes strong knowledge of corporate and contract law, excellent contract drafting skills and familiarity with administrative law. Your analytical skills and commercial acumen will be valuable assets in this role.
You are a self-motivated and quick learner, and have excellent organisational and communication skills. Additionally, you are detail-oriented, adaptable and have the ability to work autonomously. You have an understanding of, or a willingness to learn about, privacy, modern slavery, OHS, ESG, and other relevant regulations. While prior experience in the healthcare sector will be viewed favourably, it is not essential.
