The Legal Officer LSC3 is required to act as both solicitor and counsel in matters before the Magistrates and Youth Court, including as counsel in summary trials. He/she will have the conduct of an assigned criminal law case file load in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts.
The Legal Officer LSC3 is required to act as counsel in Magistrates Court sentence and/or conviction appeals, and on bail reviews in the Supreme Court.
The position is also required to appear as counsel in the District Court on guilty plea submissions, disputed facts hearings, and on less complex trials as deemed appropriate by the Manager, Criminal Law Practice Division and with guidance from members of the counsel section.
The Legal Officer LSC3 may from time to time instruct senior counsel on both conviction and sentence appeals in the Court of Criminal Appeal.

$98,782 - $108,636 (LSC3)

What you need for success
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
- Hold an unrestricted Category C Practicing Certificate or currently eligible to apply for an unrestricted Category C Practicing Certificate.
- Be appointed to the LSC’s General Panel of Practitioners or be eligible for appointment.
- Possess a minimum of five (5) years post admission legal experience.
- Possess experience in private or public practice file management, time recording and costing of files.
- Possess a broad knowledge of governmental and private agencies in the social welfare and justice system.
