Based at Banyo in Brisbane, Triple Eight Race Engineering is the home to some of the most recognisable motorsport brands in Australia including the Redbull Ampol Racing Team. We are a professional racing team competing in the Supercars series in Australia and GT Racing in Australia, Asia and Europe racing Mercedes AMG cars.
We are seeking a Qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic, with at least two years’ experience in the motorsport industry on a full-time basis. GT3 experience is highly regarded but not essential.
Working under the Workshop Manager & GT race team Manager, a GT Mechanic is responsible for the day-to-day meticulous preparation of Triple Eight Race Engineering race cars – primarily Triple Eight’s AMG GT cars and our customers’ race cars, plus other duties as workloads require – with an emphasis on quality control, consistency and attention to detail.
Key responsibilities:
- Assembly of race cars, strictly adhering to build specs, regulations and set-up sheets
- Traveling to and performing at test days and races in Australia and overseas
- Set-up and necessary adjustments to the car in accordance with established procedures and regulations
- Maintaining an accurate record of component substitution and component mileage records
- Job tracking and timeline management between race or test events
- Parts inspection, non-destructive testing, and cleaning
- Servicing of components
- Care for company property including tools, toolboxes, measurement equipment, electronic devices, and uniforms
- Garage and workshop cleanliness, organisation and presentation
- Rulebook understanding and awareness, specially pertaining to pit lane and parc ferme regulations
- Developing ideas that may contribute to car performance, reliability, crew performance or efficiency
Required skills:
- Minimum two years’ experience working on circuit racing cars
- A solid mechanical aptitude
- Capable of performing pit stops at a high level, with a desire to keep improving
- Ability to communicate effectively with the team
- Critical and scientific thinking
- Knowledge of mechanical components, electronics, and structural elements of GT cars
- Proficiency in measurement devices
- Ability to effectively review and debrief test days and race meetings
- Interpreting and implementing a setup sheet
- Positive representation of Triple Eight when travelling and in house
- High level of fitness, great initiative and intuition
