Our Linux Team: Our dedicated Linux team is the custodian of our extensive global Linux infrastructure, encompassing high-performance co-located trading servers, core computing resources, workstations, and development and simulation environments. This cohesive unit, comprising professionals with a broad spectrum of expertise, operates on a global scale to provide a platform that is reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and optimized for performance. This platform is integral to the operations of our trading, quantitative analysis, development, and support teams.
Role Overview: As a Linux Engineer, you will be an integral part of our global team, collaborating closely with seasoned professionals in our Sydney office. Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the seamless operation of a real-time, latency-critical trading environment across international co-location facilities, maintaining utmost reliability.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues within both hardware and software domains.
- Strategically planning and engineering solutions for capacity, disaster recovery, business continuity, and high availability.
- Providing robust support for core trading and business applications running on Linux.
- Spearheading initiatives to automate and enhance the efficiency of Linux-related processes at Mako.

- At least 4 years of experience as a Linux engineer within a corporate setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Linux boot sequence, kernel process management, and storage architecture.
- Proficiency in managing various Linux distributions, from server to workstation, covering installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Familiarity with core networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.
- Profound scripting abilities in at least one language (Python/Bash preferred) for complex tasks.
- Practical experience with Linux-based automation tools (Ansible/Puppet).
- Prior exposure to financial, trading, or low-latency environments is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of networking hardware and principles is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience in colocation/data center environments and on-premises Linux servers is essential.
