About the role - The Literacy (Specialist) teacher is an important member of the Pedagogy Teaching Team at Marymount College. As part of the Pedagogy Team, they provide specialist numeracy programmes for students who need additional support or extension and facilitate the development of skill sets in literacy pedagogy in teaching staff. The Literacy (Specialist) teacher will report to the Assistant Principal Curriculum and will be required to support staff and student development.
As a dynamic and innovative member of our school community, you will:
- Teach differentiated Literacy and Learning Support classes.
- Support teachers in Year 7 and 8 classes.
- Work with small groups of students during timetabled support and extension sessions.
- Support English teachers in Year 7 and 8 to develop and deliver an intensive skills development course for all students, one period per fortnight.
- Collaborate with the Program Leader Inclusive Education and teachers to modify and scaffold tasks and assessments.
- Deliver professional learning for staff in literacy development.
- Coordinate the ongoing development of literacy program.
- Analyse college literacy data to evaluate teaching and learning and supporting staff in planning to improve literacy outcomes for all students.
- Participate in the Year 6 to 7 transition programme to identify students that needing extension or support.Create a nurturing and ordered learning environment which is learner-centred, safe, supportive, co-operative and aligned with relevant curriculum, policies and practices
- Collaborate with your peers to develop and implement quality curriculum programs and appropriate pedagogy
- Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
- Work with the school leadership team and colleagues to contribute to the professional life of the school
- Proactively engage with professional learning to enhance student learning outcomes
- Ensure that the teachings and values of the Catholic Church form a foundation for learning and teaching.

- Hold a current Queensland College of Teachers registration; and
- Be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.
