The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand. A leader in the mental health sector, the College works to prepare medical specialists in the field of psychiatry, support and enhance clinical practice, advocate for people affected by mental illness and advise governments on mental health care.
Position overview
This is a new opportunity to implement and embed a Lived Experience Strategy at RANZCP. Your own Lived Experience will support the work of the RANCZP and its membership committees by bringing the unique consumer perspective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive RANZCP's Lived Experience strategy, aligning with the organization's strategic plan, mission, and objectives to amplify the voices of consumers and carers.
- Lead the identification, recruitment, and engagement of individuals with Lived Experience, ensuring a balanced representation of carers and consumers in advisory roles and committees.
- Cultivate relationships with Lived Experience peak bodies, advocacy groups, and stakeholders in Australia and New Zealand to foster cooperation between consumer and carer perspectives.
- Facilitate training programs for college staff to effectively engage with consumers and carers, emphasizing collaboration.
- Develop mechanisms for obtaining and incorporating feedback from consumers and carers to inform college decisions.
- Collaborate with media, communication, membership, events, and policy teams to communicate the college's commitment to integrating consumer and carer perspectives.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of the Lived Experience strategy, providing regular reports to senior leadership.
- Ensure the ethical considerations and sensitivity to personal and emotional aspects of Lived Experience are maintained in the college's initiatives from both consumer and carer perspectives.
- Identify as a person with Lived Experience.
- Qualifications and/or equivalent experience in psychology, social work, public health, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in program management, advocacy, or strategy implementation, preferably in the mental health field.
- Experience in delivering programs using the principles of co-design and co-development.
- Proven experience in partnering with individuals who have Lived Experience of mental health challenges.
