This is a max term position to 30 June 2025, 4 days per week (days negotiable).

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Lived Experience Peer Worker to join our team. This position offers the flexibility of working from home, with travel required as necessary. This role is crucial in offering peer support, practical help, education, and referrals to those affected by suicide. You'll need a understanding of suicide loss, employing peer principles and trauma-informed care to aid individuals in their bereavement journey. The job includes regional travel and may require working beyond standard hours at times. 

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Peer Support: Use your experience with suicide bereavement to offer personalised support and develop adaptable support plans.
  • Facilitation and Communication: Co-lead sessions and discuss complex grief and trauma from suicide loss, adhering to peer values.
  • Record Keeping and Risk Management: Keep confidential, sensitive records and manage risks, using ASIST as necessary.
  • Community Engagement and Referrals: Inform about community resources, aid in feedback processes, and coordinate referrals to appropriate groups or services.

Essential Requirements

  • Lived experience of suicide bereavement, with an understanding of its transformative impact.
  • Knowledge and experience in suicide postvention service, bereavement, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability through previous roles, volunteer work, or study, showing competence to perform the required duties.

Desirable:

  • Training such as Intentional Peer Support, Roses in the Ocean Suicide Prevention Peer Worker Training are highly desirable.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) preferred, however successful applicant will be supported to obtain on commencement 

Other Requirements:

  • Driver License and access to a vehicle
  • Successful applicants will also need to hold a ‘C’ class Open driver license, State Working with Children Check, and hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice, and Multicultural Affairs
