The Role
Reporting to the Mining Supervisor - UG, the Longhole Operator is responsible for carrying out underground production drilling, ground support and other mining tasks as directed.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Accurately drilling a series of Longholes to a design pattern using a mechanised drill.
- Reading and accurately following mine instruction plans with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
- Setting up and troubleshooting on Longhole Drill rigs.
- Complete through pre-start inspections before using the equipment, ensuring all tools and equipment are serviceable and safe.
- Liaise with Shift Supervisor and the previous shift to obtain all the information necessary about the work areas.
Skills and experience
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in underground hard rock mining techniques.
- Experience in underground hard rock mining techniques.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Demonstrated application of safe working procedures and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read and understand plans in 2-dimensions.
- Ability to understand and apply trigonometry.
- Good communication skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
