About the role:

Reporting to the Laboratory Team Leader, the Lubricants Process Chemist contributes as part of a team to complete the laboratory sampling and testing required for product certification, operation, and optimisation of our Lubricants product chain.

This position will be responsible for the effective, safe, and efficient operation the laboratory equipment, ensuring accurate, reliable, and expert information is provided to Ampol and customers to efficiently produce finished Lubricants to the required specifications.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform testing and calibrations as per the prescribed methods to meet product quality specifications and external audit requirements, in support of daily operations of Lubricants.
  • Ensure testing and analysis of raw materials, finished oils, greases and specialty products are tested in a timely manner.
  • Ensure incident free operations using the Loss Prevention System (LPS) thereby maximising the safety of the Laboratory and minimising environmental and quality incidents.
  • Timely and accurate reporting of analytical results, while self-checking for integrity, to satisfy the demands of both internal and external customers while minimising laboratory errors.
  • Provide technical advice to Blending, Filling and Warehouse Operators, liaise with Production to help overcome production related problems that may impact on product quality.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and report instrument breakdowns promptly in order to maximise instrument availability.
  • Contributes to an efficient, high performing laboratory team by identifying opportunities for improvement in laboratory processes and participating in internal audits, as well as correlation and proficiency studies.
  • Assist in maintaining the Quality, Environmental and Technical systems, and standards.

About you:

You are a team player with a positive can-do attitude and have minimum 1-3 years' experience as a Chemist within Oil & Gas and/or manufacturing facility with preference or focus in lubricants. You have a strong focus on safety and can demonstrate strong technical and problem-solving skills.

Key skills and experience:

  • Tertiary degree in science majoring in Chemistry
  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment with preference in lubricants
  • Experience with utilizing laboratory equipment used for testing, troubleshooting and routine maintenance of equipment
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry and safety standards and laboratory quality procedures
  • Knowledge of NATA requirements
  • Strong IT skills, and proficient in SAP
