In this role, you'll:
Be part of a team of mechanical fitters that inspect, service, overhaul and repair mechanical/pneumatic systems + equipment and components on diesel fleet passenger trains.
Some duties may include;
- Brake System Maintenance + Fault diagnosis
- Diesel Locomotive Engine Maintenance + Fault diagnosis
- Pneumatic air system Maintenance + Fault diagnosis
- Bogie Maintenance + Fault diagnosis
- Heavy Maintenance
- Engine changeouts
- Bogie Changeouts
- Cooling Group Changeouts
Be part of Sydney Trains working within the Fleet Maintenance Division where you’ll join a technical and collaborative crew. You’ll work out of Sydenham which has a 24/7 operational requirement that requires the team to tag shift work. Shift work will be an average of 4 days on and 3 – 6 days off (Overtime when required). You will work in a mix of 10 or 12 hour shifts on a 4 week rotating roster.
This position is 12 months fixed term with a view to go permanent.

About you
You’re a self-sufficient tradesperson who’s either worked specifically with trains or other heavy vehicles or diesel plant. Ideally, you’ll have some cross-trade electrical knowledge/exposure but there is training provided on this side of things.
In addition to your skills and experience, being a good communicator and safety conscious will make you a standout for this role.
Minimum requirement is Mechanical Fitter Trade Certificate = Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade - National code: MEM3021
