Heron Island is seeking to appoint an experienced Maintenance Manager to effectively and efficiently provide management oversight of the department, ensure compliance with legislation across all trade occupations and maintain and improve maintenance operations. This position manages Heron Island & Wilson Island's assets ensuring maximised functionality through preventative maintenance whilst promoting guest satisfaction at all times.

Heron currently accommodates up to nearly 280 guests and is located right on the Great Barrier Reef. There is a marine centre, activities centre, boutique, award-winning day spa, spacious lounge and bar overlooking the pool plus the expansive Shearwater Restaurant. Marine activities for guests and staff include world-class diving, snorkelling, kayaking and cruises.
The Maintenance Manager will provide leadership, direction and support to the maintenance team and wider departments. Ensuring team members carry out daily tasks in a safe, productive and efficient manner and oversee the consistency, quality and integrity of all maintenance work.
Promote and comply with Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Environmental Protection Act 1994, Hygiene Regulations and Australian Standards in the performance of duties ensuring work is undertaken is a safe and effective manner.
Develop a Heron Island Program of Maintenance Works to the General Manger for review, discussion and final approval.
Develop a Heron Island Maintenance Asset Register and ensure regular stocktakes are completed and provide inventory list to the Accounts Payable.
Coordinate fortnightly barge arrival and communicate barge dates and times to department heads in order to roster staff for the unloading of the barge.
Investigate cost effective purchasing and alternate supplies in order to limit and/or reduce costs to the Company and increase in revenue.
Develop and maintain, established standard operating procedures to support efficient operations and employee training.
Assist the General Manager as required with emergency management planning.
Carry out the repairs, preventative maintenance, and installation of domestic and commercial equipment where certified and competent to do so.
To be considered for this role you will have;
Certificate III in Electrician/Mechanic/Plumber/Engineer/Carpentry and/or proven success in management/superintendent positions with experience in medium to heavy industry together with high level management oversight of maintenance/trades team.
- Knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Environmental Protection Act (Qld) 1994.
- Working knowledge of Human Resource Management principles to effectively manage staff.
- Good keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and business systems.
- Experience, skills and knowledge in using hand tools, and operating plant and equipment.
- Current competency to operate a telehandler or the ability to rapidly acquire.
- Proven ability to coordinate and support breakdowns and preventative maintenance as required.
- High level communication (verbal and written) time management and organisation skills.
DESIRABLE
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificate or the ability to acquire.
