Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
A rare opportunity exists for a Maintenance Project Coordinator to join and lead our well-established production Maintenance team at our Dawson Mine in Moura, QLD. The Dawson operation is a large open-cut coal mining operation. Dawson Mine is showing no signs of slowing down, estimating a whopping 16 years of operational mine life.
The Maintenance Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating Maintenance Projects to ensure optimal performance, safety, and efficiency of the mines operations. Other responsibilities will also include:
- Developing project plans and schedules for maintenance activities, including equipment repairs, upgrades, and replacements.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams, contracts, and suppliers to ensure timely completion of projects while adhering to budgetary and safety guidelines.
- Identify and engage qualified contractors for specialized maintenance tasks or projects, such as shut downs and major overhauls.
- Monitor project progress and performance metrics, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Allocate resources effectively, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to support Maintenance Projects and ongoing operations.
- Develop and manage project budgets, including forecasting and tracking expenses related to Maintenance Projects
- Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements to promote a safe working environment
Qualifications
- Mechanical engineering, or a related field (preferred), or Mechanical Trade Qual.
- Strong technical knowledge of mining equipment, systems, and maintenance practices.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with project management tools and software.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
