The opportunity
We’re seeking a driven and experienced Maintenance Technician to support our Power Plant team. This is your chance to be part of something new and exciting in the Pilbara. This role will be on a permanent basis, 2/1 FIFO day shift roster FIFO from Perth to Cape Preston.
The power station is a huge combined-cycle, gas-fired plant with 480 megawatt design capacity – it has seven gas turbines, three steam turbines and six heat recovery generators, meaning it generates 40% less emissions than an open-cycle plant while producing enough power to supply a major regional town.
In this role you’ll be responsible for:
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvements on mechanical power systems for consistent delivery of power (Working on valves, fans, pumps, motor alignments, gearbox change outs etc)
- Ensure safe operation of power station equipment.
- Contribute to achieving team goals.
- Maintain availability and reliability of designated plant items.
- Assist in documenting power plant service processes.
- Utilize SAP Maintenance Management system for accurate task recording.
- Conduct inspections, fault finding, and root cause analysis to minimize repeat failures.
- Aid in training new and existing power plant staff and apprentices.
- Assist in developing and reviewing operational/maintenance plans.
- Support plant commissioning and start-up to reach design capacity.
To be successful in the role you must have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Australian Mechanical Fitter Trade qualification and competency certificates (Steam turbine operator ticket, Boiler Intermediate ticket are desirable).
- Proven experience in Mechanical maintenance field ideally in Power Stations/ Power generation. Understanding of appropriate application of proactive operational and preventive maintenance.
- Desirable: Experience using SAP; Working knowledge of Power Generation, Distribution, Transmission and Balance of Plant (Water System, Compressed Air Systems); Knowledge and experience of operation or working with industrial gas appliance.
- Knowledge in Power operational procedures, isolation procedures and regulations,
- Ability to direct and conduct mechanical investigations such that root causes are determined.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, skills, flexible and adaptive approach to fluctuating workloads and priorities.
- A current WA Manual Drivers licence is an essential requirement. Forklift (LF) licence is preferred.
