Job description:
First Quantum Minerals is one of the world's biggest mining companies, employing over 20,000 people.
Ravensthorpe Nickel Operation is our flagship operation in Australia. Located on the beautiful south coast of Western Australia, we are just a short commute from the coastal community of Hopetoun. As a major nickel producer and exporter, we aim to ship up to 30,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate each year via Esperance Port.
This is a complex and challenging operation. The circuit and areas are typical of a hydrometallurgical process plant.
The process plant areas consists of:
  • A Beneficiation circuit, consisting of crushers and grinding mills with associated support systems and process circuits including conveying systems, vibrating screens, centrifugal and P.D pumps, pipework and cyclones, various sized tankage with agitation.
  • A Leach circuit consisting of High Pressure Acid Leach Trains which include autoclaves and associated support systems, HP vessels, HP centrifugal and P.D. pumps and pipework also an Atmospheric Leach circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation.
  • A Hydro circuit with associated centrifugal pumps, pipework and various sized tankage with agitation, pressure and vacuum filters including associated support systems.
  • A Utilities plant which includes a Sulphuric Acid plant, steam turbines and diesel generators for power generation, desalination plant, and air compressors.

The position of Maintenance Technician, Conveyor Belts is to maximise plant operation availability through maintaining the operational integrity of the plant & equipment in order to achieve production targets.
Working an 8:6 roster and reporting directly to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician, Conveyor Belts shall be responsible for providing the highest quality services and such services are preformed within a safe and timely manner.
Tasks and responsibilities include but not limited to inspections and repairs of Conveyor belts which also consists of cold & hot vulcanising repairs. Maintenance of conveyor belt components that include repairs, replacement & adjustments to tracking systems, rollers, frames, impact beds, ploughs, scrappers & belt cleaning systems.
Key Accountabilities
  • Work as an integral Team Member within the respective Crew,
  • Primary responsibility would be to have a high degree of focus on the Conveyor belts,
  • Assist in the Management of Contract Staff when attendance is required, primarily on Shutdowns,
  • Be familiar with and be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools,
  • When not undertaking specific Belt tasks there would be an expectation to assist the Mechanical and Fabrication Staff where required,
  • Conduct and participate in quality control testing processes,
  • Operate or be involved with the use of a variety of plant, machinery and equipment including Cranes, Overhead cranes, Forklifts and varied LV's and HV's where needed.
  • Execute and deliver all work safely and to a high professional standard,
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner and provide technical advice where required,
  • Support the training and development of staff members,
  • Perform any other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • At least 4 years demonstrated experience in Belt Splicing, hot & cold repairs.
  • Demonstrated experience in conveyor systems & their working components within the mining industry.
  • Able to audit, develop and read plans.
  • Possess VALID Confined space and Gas testing certifications,
  • Working at heights Certification
  • EWP Certification.
  • Hold a Current WA driver's C-class Driver's License (HR license desirable)
  • Forklift ticket,
  • Mobile Crane (CN) Competency would be desirable but not essential.
  • Dogging Certification and experience is required & Rigging would be desirable but not essential.
  • Work proficiently in a variety of tasks with a professional, flexible and hands-on approach to work.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required
  • Familiarity with best practices in Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental procedures and legislation policies.
  • Ability to multi-skill, work within a team & autonomously
