About the role
The role involves ensuring that Sort Systems and related depot equipment are fully maintained. This includes undertaking preventive and predictive maintenance and providing prompt corrective action in case of unforeseen breakdowns or damages. The position requires competencies as an Industrial Electrician and broader responsibilities for general depot maintenance.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Activities
- Perform all planned maintenance activities on automated sortation systems and related freight handling equipment.
- Carry out preventive, predictive, corrective, and project engineering to maximize throughput capacity.
- Quickly identify and rectify electrical or automation faults in the sortation systems during unforeseen breakdowns.
- Integrate, maintain, and use the computerized maintenance management system (MEX) effectively.
- Ensure rapid repair of critical system components and adherence to maintenance schedules.
- Conduct maintenance in line with established practices and procedures.
- Support operational staff in the correct usage of systems and equipment.
- Maintain critical spare parts and tools in an organized and safe manner.
Operational Performance and Excellence
- Assist in designing innovative system and facility solutions to meet evolving operational and business needs.
- Contribute to developing innovative system improvements.
- Help develop appropriate maintenance procedures and schedules.
Customer Focus
- Maintain effective relationships with suppliers and specialist service providers required for system maintenance.
- Foster effective relationships with operational personnel and senior management.
General Responsibilities

Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in maintaining and repairing complex industrial automation systems.
- Understanding of PLCs, VSDs, and SCADA systems.
- General knowledge of carton and package handling conveyor systems.
- Proficiency in reading complex technical diagrams.
- Experience with conveying equipment, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to utilize computerized maintenance management (MEX) software systems effectively.
- Capacity to participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Capital project experience.
- Experience in the freight/intralogistics industry is highly desirable.
Qualifications Required
- Tertiary/T.A.F. E: Electrical engineering trade or Certificate III in Electrical Fitting.
- A Grade Electrical License.
- Driver's License.
